Orbital design of Berry curvature: pinch points and giant dipoles induced by crystal fields

The Berry curvature (BC) - a quantity encoding the geometric properties of electronic wavefunctions in solid is at heart different Hall-like transport phenomena, including anomalous Hall and non-linear Nernst effects. In non-magnetic quantum materials with acentric crystalline arrangements, local concentrations BC are generally linked to single-particle that superposition electron hole excitations. BC-mediated effects consequently observed two-dimensional systems pairs massive Dirac cones three-dimensional bulk crystals quartets Weyl cones. Here, we demonstrate equipped orbital degrees freedom can arise even complete absence these solids, fields appearing very low-symmetric structures trigger BCs characterized by hot-spots singular pinch points. These characteristics naturally yield giant dipoles large responses time-reversal symmetric conditions.
